About this Amethyst bracelet

The Greeks named it amethystos — 'not drunk' — believing it kept the mind clear under pressure. Two thousand years later the same violet stone is still worn for the same reason: a tactile anchor for a restless mind.

It moves quietly through Mauritian life — on the wrists of Reduit students before exam fortnight, of mothers managing school runs, of professionals between meetings in Ebene. Each bracelet is handcrafted in our Pointe aux Sables atelier. 2187.

History

Historically highly prized by ancient royalty and clergy, amethyst was considered equal in value to ruby and emerald before the discovery of large Brazilian deposits. Ancient Greeks and Romans traditionally wore the stone and carved drinking vessels from it, associating the crystal with clarity of thought and the prevention of intoxication. In medieval Europe, it was a symbol of piety for the Catholic Church. The name originates from the ancient Greek word amethystos, which translates directly to 'not intoxicated'.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I wear my amethyst bracelet every day?

Yes — daily wear is what it's built for. The stones are hard enough for normal life: typing, school runs, the lagoon road. Take the piece off before showering, swimming, or applying perfume directly on the wrist — those three are what shorten a bracelet's life faster than daily wear ever does.

How do I cleanse amethyst in Mauritian humidity?

Skip the water. Soaking degrades the elastic core and tarnishes any metal findings faster than humidity already does. Wipe the violet beads with a dry microfibre cloth. For energetic cleansing, leave the bracelet under the full moon overnight, or rest it on a soft moonlight. Avoid prolonged midday sun — strong UV can soften the colour over years.

Which bead size suits a teenager or student?

6mm is the most popular size for younger wrists and for students who want something they can wear under a uniform cuff without it being noticed. It sits close to the wristbone and weighs almost nothing. 8mm reads as classic and standard. 10mm carries real weight — usually chosen by adults who want the tactile reminder to be obvious.

What does amethyst pair well with?

Most people stack amethyst with amethyst for clarity, or black tourmaline for extra grounding. Both work visually with the violet. Rose quartz makes a softer stack for those who want a gentler look. If you want a coordinated set with matching cord and findings, message us on WhatsApp before you order and we'll design the pair together.
