About this Moonstone bracelet

Moonstone is the oldest entry in the Ayurvedic Navaratna alongside the better-known pearl and garnet, traditionally associated with lunar energy and the steadier emotional rhythms of evening. The faint internal sheen (adularescence, if you want the gemmological term) catches a lamp from across a room.

New mothers wear it through the broken-sleep months; women track it through their cycle; founders wear it through the December rush when the workday refuses to end. Each bracelet is handcrafted in our Pointe aux Sables atelier. If you add

History

Both the ancient Romans and Greeks associated moonstone with their lunar deities, believing the crystal was formed from frozen rays of moonlight. It has been used in Roman jewellery since the first century CE and holds deep traditional significance in India as a sacred, dream-bringing stone. The name directly reflects the crystal's adularescence, an optical effect that mimics the ethereal glow of the moon.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I wear moonstone every day?

Yes. Moonstone is roughly as hard as glass — durable enough for office days, the school run, the drive home from Curepipe. Take the bracelet off before swimming, showering, or applying lotion directly on the wrist. Cosmetic oils sink into the cord faster than they do into the stone.

How do I cleanse it in Mauritian humidity?

No water. Moonstone has natural cleavage planes that don't enjoy thermal shock — and the cord doesn't enjoy moisture either. Wipe the beads with a dry microfibre cloth. For energetic cleansing, leave the bracelet on a windowsill under the full moon overnight, or rest it on a soft moonlight.

Why do some beads look more iridescent than others?

That's the nature of the stone, not the bracelet. Adularescence — the milky inner glow — varies bead by bead even in the same strand. Some beads catch the light dramatically; others stay quieter. We hand-pick strands to keep the variation graceful rather than jarring, but no two pieces look identical.

Is moonstone considered auspicious in any local tradition?

It's the central stone of the Ayurvedic Navaratna alongside the pearl and garnet, and is associated with the Moon in Vedic astrology — meaningful for many Mauritian families. Wearers often choose it around Mother's Day or for a daughter's first communion or 13th birthday. Cultural fit varies by family; follow what feels right.
