Lava Stone — meaning, properties & history

History

Lava stone is basalt: molten rock that cooled fast enough to trap its escaping gas, leaving the honeycomb of pores that defines it. Volcanic traditions worldwide treat it as the earth-fire stone — creation through destruction, new land born from the flow. Hawaiian tradition holds volcanic rock in particular reverence, and Roman builders ground the same material into the pozzolanic concrete that still holds up the Pantheon. Its jewellery life is much newer. The diffuser bracelet — a drop or two of essential oil absorbed into the porous bead and released slowly through the day — is a twenty-first-century application, and a genuinely useful one rather than a marketing invention. Modern practice pairs the ancient grounding tradition with that practical function: a stone for people whose energy runs hot, worn as an anchor and a quiet source of scent.
